Frequently Asked Questions

Is this an NHS service?

NeuroSense is a privately funded service provided by an ex-NHS Autism Diagnostician, however you may be able to receive funding via charitable organisations or an Individual Funding Request (IFR).

Can you diagnose me with ADHD or ASD?

NeuroSense has teamed with the Glasgow Psychology Centre in order to provide comprehensive diagnosis in line with the SIGN 145 and NICE CG142 guidelines on diagnostic assessments.

NeuroSense was founded by an Occupational Therapist diagnosed late in life with autism, who has observed that many adults identify as neurodiverse based on their own research and awareness of their individual challenges. They often choose not to pursue formal assessment due to difficulties in obtaining referrals, early dismissal by services, or other negative experiences.

At NeuroSense we are here to listen, no matter what journey brought you here.

How do I choose which assessment to pick?

We offer a free 15 minute consultation (over whatever communication medium you feel comfortable with) to chat about what you are seeking and help you decide where you go from here.  There is no obligation to continue into assessment or treatment.

Do I have to live in Glasgow to use this service?

No, NeuroSense offer most of its services through remote contact, however if face to face contact is needed for assessment of your home/work environmental (for adaptation and equipment prescription), visits can be made available within Central Belt of Scotland upon arrangement with a therapist at the cost of the client.

ADHD & Autism Assessments can be completed remotely and in-person within Glasgow Psychology Centre, 98 W George St, Glasgow G2 1PJ.

Are assessments done face to face?

Neurosense will be providing in-person sessions within Glasgow Psychology Centre, however sessions and assessments can also be completed remotely, should this communication style be preferred.

*Please be aware that assessment of children, may require face to face assessment with the child and also observation of the child at their school and input from teachers, in order to obtain rhobust evidence for the assessment pathway.

For Occupational Therapy home visits (within 3 hours driving distance from Glasgow only) for environmental assessments, please enquire.

Travel costs, travel time and mileage are not included in the assessment/session cost if home visit(s) are required. Costs will be confirmed prior to booking.

Do you work with children?

Neurosense has partnered with Glasgow Psychology Centre to provide assessment and support for individuals aged 8 onwards.

*If referral to paediatric services is required for your child, we will signpost you recommendations on specialist child services in your area.

Are your assessments the same as the NHS? Will they be accepted by my GP?

This is a common concern, especially when making your own financial investment in assessment.

At NeuroSense our lead clinician was the Clinical Lead for NHS Highland and therefore performs the same assessments currently used by NHS services UK-Wide.

For Autism diagnosis, there is no need to involved your GP to validate diagnosis, as they are unable to provide any post diagnostic support, however if you do wish to involve your GP, speak to them first before making an investment and provide them with the details of this website.  The lead clinician is Claire McKenzie-Sime and her bio & professional registration with the Royal College of Occupational Therapists can be found here, with the Health and Care Professionals Council can be found here.

For ADHD speak to your GP about Shared Care Agreements and give them the details for Glasgow Psychology Centre
